Peter Storm Men's Dovedale Hiking Boots

Let's be straight - these aren't the boots to get if you are intending on tackling all the Munros... but for everyday walking on low-level trails on public footpaths, these Peter Storm Dovedale boots are difficult to beat at the price.

They are waterproof - so they should be fine in most medium British downpours - and fairly breathable too.  The sole has a surprising amount of grip - just heed the warning about the Munros and you'll be fine.

As a starter boot, these are pretty hard to ignore - and are great for most of the walks we do on Walks Around Britain.

Hi-Tec Altitude VI i Waterproof

We're big fans of Hi-Tec here at Walks Around Britain, and these Altitude are a particular favourite.

Hi-Tec have placed particular attention to the waterproof-ness of these models - and so they have a premium leather upper and Dri-Tec waterproof and breathable membrane sandwiched between a moisture wicking lining, with the addition of an i-shield repellent coating on the upper.

Clean lines and an attractive dark colour on the leather upper go together with the Michelin rubber outsole providing excellent grip.

Well worth a look.

Berghaus Men's Expanse GORE-TEX® Shoes

If you think of the craze these days in the car world for "crossovers", then you'll understand this fusion of walking boot and trainer which is the Expanse from Berghaus.

Built with the same features from their standard Explorer ranger, these Expanse are a trainer style of boot - or shoe really, so they are designed for standard walking, fell-running and normal everyday use.

Fully waterproof with their GORE-TEX Extended Comfort footwear membrane and your feet are kept feeling fresh all day thanks to breathable, cushioned and anti-microbial ORTHOLITE footbeds. The Vibram outsole gives shock absorption and good grip.

The lack of ankle support might make them not to everyone's taste but they are a fantastical solid but lightweight walking boot.
