Our Top 5 Women's Walking Boots
It's our number top tip when starting out walking - buy the best walking boots you can afford, because if your feet are happy, the rest of you is happy.
As we get to see new kit, we'll be updating this page, so keep popping back to stay up-to-date with our selection.
But chosing which pair of walking boots to buy is probably one of the hardest choices for all our outdoor kit decisions.
So firstly, have a look at Our Guide to Walking Boots here, and then take a look at our selection of the Top 5 Women's Walking Boots available now.

Berghaus Women’s Expeditor Ridge 2.0

With the updated Expeditor Ridge 2.0, Berghaus have another sturdy, well-made boot suitable for most walking conditions.  The leather upper is made in a tannery certified by the Leather Working Group for its envirnomental properties - and feels quality too.  The shock absorbing EVA midsoles do a fantastic job on bumpy terrain.

The sole is also of note here, designed from OPTI-STUD to provide the right combination of braking, traction and anti-clogging performance with grippy Alpha Compound rubber.  Whilst it's not Gore Tex, the AQ® waterproof lining does a great job - keeping your feet your feet dry whilst allowing them to breathe.

Available in a modern black, they are one of the few women’s boots available in half sizes too.

Hi-Tec Altitude VI I Waterproof

It doesn't necessarily follow that as we've included these Hi-Tec's in the Men's list, they'd be in the Women's list... but these warrent it.  The Altitude VI Waterproof women’s walking boots are very good pieces of kit; stylish, yet practical; druable yet comfortable.

The Michelin rubber outsole is certainly a tyre for your feet, gripping to pretty much everything you walk on, and the premium leather upper and Dri-Tec waterproof membrane work together to keep feet dry.

Inside, the slow recovery foam OrthoLite Impressions insoles provide more than a decent level of cushioning underfoot.

All in all, a pretty good buy.

Peter Storm Women's Dovedale Walking Boots

Let's be straight - these aren't the boots to get if you are intending on tackling all the Munros... but for everyday walking on low-level trails on public footpaths or the occasional not-too-difficult mountain, these Peter Storm Women's Dovedale Walking Boots are difficult to beat at the price.

They are waterproof - so they should be fine in most medium British downpours - and fairly breathable too.  The sole has a surprising amount of grip - just heed the warning about the Munros and you'll be fine.

As a starter boot, these are pretty hard to ignore - and are great for most of the walks we do on Walks Around Britain.

The North Face Women's Vectiv Exploris Futurelight shoes

If you’d prefer a more walking shoe feel than a traditional walking boot but still have grip and be waterproof, then the Exploris Futurelight shoes are for you.

They are much lighter than the traditional walking shoes - and more colourful too, being available in more fewer than 6 colours - these trainer-type shoes still pack in excellent insoles for cushioning.  Whilst there's no Gore-Tex here, the FUTURELIGHT upper is waterproof and should keep you dry whatever the weather.  TNF's new VECTIV™ technology on the sole is supposed to maximise energy on the trail, and to our mind really does.

If having the tightness of the ankle supports from traditional walking boots is a problem for you, then the Exploris Futurelight shoes are the best combination of the grip and stability of boots, without enclosed ankles.

Asolo Falcon GV GTX Women's Hiking Boot

Perhaps not a name well-known in the UK – but that’s sure to change.

These are serious walking boots for serious walkers.  The one-piece 1.8mm suede leather upper and the Gore-Tex waterproof lining won’t let anything in and the hard rubber toe cap is added protection.

The sole is a stunning Vibram Redstar; great grip and a self-cleaning system which adds to the grip.  Good looking too.

Asolo online sells from the EU, and therefore you should check whether there's any import duty on top, seeing as though the UK has now foolishly left the single market...  Or buy them in person at one of the many independent stockists around the UK.
