Our Top 5 Walking Socks

Socks are socks, right?  Well, no... there's a whole range of walking socks out there, so we got our editor Andrew White to select some of his favourites - so here is our selection of the Top 5 Walking Accessories available now.

As we get to see new kit, we'll be updating this page, so keep popping back to stay up-to-date with our selection.
HJ Hall Commando - Half Hose Wool Rich Socks

HJ Hall have been making socks since 1882, so they know what they are doing - and it shows with one of their most popular outdoor ranges - the Commando.  They say the Commando is "the first line of defence for your feet" and they are right.  The 60% Wool, 40% Polyamide composition gives them a hard-wearing though soft feel.  They are designed to meet NATO defene standards, and we're sure they'll stand the test of walking along the Pennine Way many times.

There's also a specific Ladies version too - which only is available in size 3-6 - so if you are outside that range, the main uinisex ones are for you.  HJ Hall has a 6 month guarantee on all its products.

Wigwam Merino Silk Hiker Socks

Not heard of Wigwam Socks yet?  They've been made in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA since 1905 and have a range pretty much unequalled in the outdoor sock world.
Wigwam's Merino/Silk Hiker is a heavyweight sock knit for superior warmth and comfort, and is ideal for any expedition you undertake.

1000 Mile Wool Fusion Walking Sock

There aren't many socks which come with a Blister-Free Guarantee... so these Fusion Walk Socks from 1000 Mile have a lot to live up to.  Fortunately, they are excellent.  They have a double layer construction - Merino wool on the outside and a Tactel fibre inside - which work together to take sweat away from the feet whilst still elimatating friction between the feet and the boots.

It does work really well, and, along with the extra padding for toe, ball and heel zones, they are very confortable too.  The Blister-Free Guarantee is due to a fully-padded section around the achilles tendon - and these are the first soks to offer this.

Genuinely warm and comfortable but keeps feet dry and cool.

Craghoppers Summer Walking Sock

In the heat of summer, keeping your feet cool and comfortable is very important - especially to avoid developing Athlete's Foot.  So these new summer walking socks from Craghoppers combine Coolmax fabric technology with overfoot venting to help take the heat out of hard-working feet.
