Hi-Tec Altitude VI i Waterproof

We're big fans of Hi-Tec here at Walks Around Britain, and these Altitude are a particular favourite.

Hi-Tec have placed particular attention to the waterproof-ness of these models - and so they have a premium leather upper and Dri-Tec waterproof and breathable membrane sandwiched between a moisture wicking lining, with the addition of an i-shield repellent coating on the upper.

Clean lines and an attractive dark colour on the leather upper go together with the Michelin rubber outsole providing excellent grip.

Well worth a look.

Regatta Asheland Hiking Boots

Regatta are well-known for quality products at sensible prices, and the Asheland doesn’t fail on that front.

The Vibram Grivola sole will grip to most mixed terrains in wet or dry conditions, and the inner features a seam sealed Isotex membrane - which will keep your feet dry and also allow your feet to breathe.  Good-looking with lots of features found on expensive boots, such as rubberised heel & toe bumpers.  Perfect for regular medium length walks on a mix of terrain - and now a steal at under £45!

Berghaus Explorer Active GTX

If you think of the craze these days in the car world for "crossovers", then you'll understand this fusion of walking boot and trainer which is the Active GTX from Berghaus.

Built with the same features from their standard Explorer ranger, these Active GTX are a trainer style of boot - or shoe really.  The clue here is the "Active" bit of the name, so they are designed for standard walking, fell-running and normal everyday use.

Fully waterproof with their GORE-TEX Extended Comfort footwear membrane and your feet are kept feeling fresh all day thanks to breathable, cushioned and anti-microbial ORTHOLITE footbeds.

The lack of ankle support might make them not to everyone's taste but they are a fantastical solid but lightweight walking boot.

Berghaus Explorer Trek Plus GTX

If the trainer-style of the Active GTX isn't for you, then how about the full-blown Explorer Trek Plus GTX from Berghaus?

Berghaus claim these are “Britain’s most popular waterproof fabric fell walking boot” – and you can see why.  Lightweight, immensely waterproof and very comfortable - all thanks to Gore-Tex materials.

They look striking too and the suede adds some style as well as being practical.  Will handle everything up to serious rock scrambling.

Hi Gear Kinder II WP Men's Walking Boots

Let's be straight - these aren't the boots to get if you are intending on tackling all the Munros... but for everyday walking on low-level trails on public footpaths, these Hi Gear Kinder II WP boots are difficult to beat at the price.

They are waterproof - so they should be fine in most medium British downpours - and fairly breathable too.  The sole has a surprising amount of grip - just heed the warning about the Munros and you'll be fine.

As a starter boot, these are pretty hard to ignore - and are great for most of the walks we do on Walks Around Britain.
