Hi-Tec V-Lite Helvellyn WP

We're big fans of Hi-Tec here at Walks Around Britain, and these Helvellyns are a particular favourite.

Clean lines and an attractive dark colour on the leather upper go together with the Vibram rubber outsole providing good grip.

The V-Lite means lightweight, and they are one of the lightest in the price range.  Well worth a look.

Berghaus Explorer Active GTX

If you think of the craze these days in the car world for "crossovers", then you'll understand this fusion of walking boot and trainer which is the Active GTX from Berghaus.

Built with the same features from their standard Explorer ranger, these Active GTX are a trainer style of boot - or shoe really.  The clue here is the "Active" bit of the name, so they are designed for standard walking, fell-running and normal everyday use.

Fully waterproof with their GORE-TEX Extended Comfort footwear membrane and your feet are kept feeling fresh all day thanks to breathable, cushioned and anti-microbial ORTHOLITE footbeds.

The lack of ankle support might make them not to everyone's taste but they are a fantastical solid but lightweight walking boot.

Berghaus Explorer Trek Plus GTX

If the trainer-style of the Active GTX isn't for you, then how about the full-blown Explorer Trek Plus GTX from Berghaus?

Berghaus claim these are “Britain’s most popular waterproof fabric fell walking boot” – and you can see why.  Lightweight, immensely waterproof and very comfortable - all thanks to Gore-Tex materials.

They look striking too and the suede adds some style as well as being practical.  Will handle everything up to serious rock scrambling.

Rohan Men's ECCO Track 6 Y-Toe GTX

Classy outdoor gear people Rohan don't make these stylish shoes - instead they are from Danish company ECCO, who have been making shoes since 1963.

The first thing to notice about these walking boots - is that they aren't walking boots.  In keeping with Rohan's aim of outdoor gear that doesn't look like outdoor gear, these Y-Toe shoes look more like smart dress shoes, than ruggid outdoor kit.  In fact, they are 100% waterproof thanks to GORE-TEX® technology (hence the "GTX") and the rubber outsole provides a tremendious amount of grip - ample for coastal path walking in Jersey for instance.

They are comfy, with the direct-injected PU midsole foam providing long lasting cushioning which also keeps your feet fairly fresh.
